Mitchell Rattner has been practicing in the areas of estate, trust, and mental incompetency litigation since joining Schnurr Kirsh Oelbaum Tator LLP in 2016. Mitchell also advises clients on matters of estate planning and administration.
Mitchell – who at one time considered a career in health care – was drawn to this area of law because of the uniquely personal element. Mitchell has practiced exclusively in this field since the start of his career, and he remains passionate about this interesting and nuanced area of law.
Mitchell takes a compassionate and pragmatic approach in assisting his clients navigate the complexities of the legal system. Mitchell employs creativity to find prudent solutions for his clients, and strives to do so efficiently and economically. Just as clients appreciate Mitchell’s candour, Mitchell also employs a straightforward approach to negotiation, and in his courtroom advocacy. Mitchell regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and has also appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Mitchell’s practice also involves working as preferred counsel for LawPRO on matters of professional negligence with respect to estate and trust issues. Mitchell is a contributing author to the text Estate Litigation, and has written several papers in the area of estate and guardianship litigation. Mitchell has spoken at professional engagements, community information sessions, and has guest lectured at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Mitchell has been recognized as “One to Watch” in Best Lawyers Magazine, and as a Top Lawyer in Toronto by Post City Magazines.
Mitchell holds a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a B.A. (distinction) from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Bar of Ontario.
Mitchell is married to an academic, has a daughter, and enjoys reading, playing piano, and travelling, and in particular, exploring the British countryside.
